The Detectives t-shirt was conceived and created by our good friend Morgan Jesse Lappin from Brooklyn NY. He’s a collage-master and has loves to collect images from encyclopedias, VHS covers and other miscellaneous items he finds on the street. With the Detectives tee, we’ve got some James Bond type poses with a tiger and squid face and a backdrop of a beautiful desert.

Originally, Morgan was printing the detective shirt with a 1-color process and no backdrop. You can check it out here. I thought it was pretty damn sweet, but when I saw the original Detectives collage, I was blown away by the incredible use of colors in the background and black & white images in the forefront. I also love the way that the squid head peeks out over the top of the rectangular box breaking the linear symmetry.

I tend not to be an all-over-print t-shirt wearer, but the detectives tee is surprisingly wearable for a small guy like me. It’s been a silent killer in our collection, and I can’t wait to get some more designs crankin’ with Morgan. This tee is printed on a white 100% cotton American Apparel tee. We will be coming out with a girl’s version shortly.
